FAQs

Therapy for Therapists

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How much does therapy cost?

Each of our therapists sets their own rates based on their individual practices. Typically, ongoing 50-minute individual therapy sessions range from $185 to $210 per session. Group therapy sessions are generally 90 minutes and cost between $75 and $105. Sliding scale options may be available, and we encourage you to discuss your financial situation with your therapist during the initial consultation to see if a reduced rate can be accommodated.

2. Do your therapists accept insurance?

Our therapists operate in “insurance-friendly” practices. While we are all considered out-of-network providers, we assist clients in understanding and obtaining reimbursement for therapy services BEFORE starting therapy. To ensure you know what to expect regarding payment, we recommend checking with your insurance company. Here are some key questions to ask:

  1. What is my out-of-network coverage for outpatient mental health visits?
  2. Is there a deductible that needs to be met before services are covered? How much of my deductible has been met this year?
  3. Is there a limit on the number of sessions my plan will cover per year? If yes, how many?
  4. Is there an “allowed” amount that would be reimbursed for therapy sessions?
  5. Do I need pre-authorization to start therapy, such as a referral from an in-network provider or primary care physician?
  6. How do I submit claims for out-of-network reimbursement?
  7. Are virtual outpatient mental health visits (teletherapy) covered by my plan?
  8. I have an example superbill from my potential therapist at Therapy for Therapists. Can you tell me (based on the details from this superbill) how much I would be reimbursed for individual, group, and couples therapy?
  9. Is there anything else I need to know about utilizing my out-of-network benefits (limitations, rules, or other important details)?

3. What types of therapy do your therapists offer?

Our therapists use a variety of therapeutic approaches to best meet the needs of their clients. Common approaches include psychodynamic therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and mindfulness-based therapies. Each therapist may specialize in different modalities, so you can discuss their specific approach during your initial consultation. Please read through the ‘About Us’ webpage to learn more details about each therapist and how they practice.

4. Can I have an initial consultation before committing to therapy?

Yes, we encourage all potential clients to schedule an initial consultation with their chosen therapist. This allows you to discuss your needs, ask questions, and get a sense of whether the therapist’s approach aligns with your goals. This consultation is also a good time to discuss fees, insurance, and any other logistical concerns.

5. How do I schedule a session?

You can schedule a session by completing the contact form on our website or reaching out directly to the therapist you are interested in. They will provide you with details on availability and any additional steps needed to get started.

6. What if I need to cancel or reschedule a session?

Each therapist has their own cancellation and rescheduling policies. It’s important to discuss these policies during your initial consultation. Generally, we request that you provide as much notice as possible if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment.

7. Are virtual therapy sessions available?

Yes, all of our therapists offer virtual therapy sessions. If you prefer teletherapy, please discuss this option during your initial consultation to ensure it’s available and suitable for your needs.

8. What if I need additional support between sessions?

Your therapist will discuss how to best support you between sessions, which may include recommended self-care practices or resources. If you experience an emergency or urgent need, it’s important to seek immediate help from a crisis hotline or local emergency services.
